Education

The Clubhouse offers educational opportunities for members to complete or start certificate and degree programs at academic institutions and adult education programs. The Clubhouse assists members to further their vocational and educational goals by helping them take advantage of adult education opportunities in the community. When the Clubhouse also provides an in-house educational program, it significantly utilizes the teaching and tutoring skills of other members.

The ‘Education Station’ at Crossroads tours an educational program in the Tulsa area each month to obtain information regarding available educational opportunities and to establish connections with schools in the community. Also, Crossroads holds a “Study Hour” each Friday afternoon, where those currently enrolled in educational programs can work quietly or with member tutors to complete homework/study. Crossroads also provides assistance with obtaining financial aid. Currently, Crossroads has approximately 10 members currently enrolled in educational programs, ranging from GED programs to continuing education and degree programs.

Brian
Hello, I am Brian. Crossroads is the place I go to get help. Recently, Crossroads has taken part in my recovery. After having been suspended indefinitely from Tulsa Community College, which I had been enrolled in for a couple of years, I sought help from Crossroads. I got suspended for behavioral problems so it was very helpful when my staff person Natalie really committed to getting me back in good standing with my school and strived to be my advocate. Together we made countless phone calls back and forth with the school, wrote a letter requesting my re-admission with steps of action, including ways that I had improved my behavior and a plan for how I would re-integrate. We also attended a meeting with the Dean of Student Services and her assistant where we discussed the problem of my re-admittance and ways to resolve it. I would never have gone through this process without the help and support I received from Crossroads.

Harry Cook
Hello! I would like to share how Crossroads Clubhouse has helped me to continue in my goal to obtain my General Education Diploma (GED). It all started by having support from Crossroads. This enabled me to take a placement test and enroll in GED classes, which I attend four days a week for three and half hours each day. I have taken the GED test three times and am getting ready to take it a fourth time this spring. With support from Crossroads, my score has increased each time I have taken the test, and I am eager for the day I obtain my high school diploma! I know that with help from the Education Station and my supportive community that I will achieve my goal very soon. Thanks, Crossroads!
